Back to Back Dub for the Jennings County Lady Panthers this Weekend

On ball pressure by Senior Alivia Elmore

The ladies went on a run this past weekend with a set of “W(s)” against Cathedral at home and away at Greensburg. The Lady Panthers proved since their Silver Creek win that team chemistry is evolving causing them stand out giving us glimpses at just how potent this team could be.

With Cathedral losing their best player last year, they couldn’t complete as closely as they did the year prior at the Hoosier Gym. The Lady Panthers didn’t seem to care as they kept their pedal to the floor siting bringing in another win.

Even though we didn’t control the tip, Juliann Woodard, #00 Senior forced a turnover giving us the chance to score as Etta Young, Freshman put up our first point of the game.

From there Jennings seemed to control the tempo with their defense by forced turnovers and steals with Ernstes and Woodard having a combined total of 7.

Lady Panthers lead at half 28-18, with the final score of 57 - 40.

On paper the Lady Panthers kept their turnovers low until late the fourth quarter but what made the difference in this ball game were steal, FG% and 3pt FG %. Leading the way in scoring was Ernstes with 21 pts, Juliann Woodard 17pts, Elmore 7pts and Young with 6pt.

The following day the Lady Panthers went on the road to Greensburg to battle and that’s just what they did. With a turn out crowd in attendance the place was rockin’ from the start. For me, the crowd, the competition and the girl’s energy made it to be one of the best first half games I’ve watched in a while.

Greensburg competed strong with these ladies both offensively and defensively. Harmon’s defense was strong while Wilkerson was playing lights out on offense.

Both teams came to play however, post half-time Greensburg’s efforts just weren’t enough.

It was the shooting efforts that stood out to me as the Lady Panthers shot well with FG% 50 and 55% from the arc. Jennings County seemed to have more action from MacIntosh, Young and Carson as well. When those players step up to make key baskets and defensive plays, this team easily jumps into a top-rated team.

The Lady Panthers were lead by Sophomore Mollie Ernstes #31 with 20pts, 7reb and 2 blocks. Senior Juliann Woodard #00 19pts, 10reb and 10 assists. Other scorers were Elmore with 11pts, McIntosh 9pts, Young 4pts, Carson 2pts and Byford with 2pts.
